Acupuncture
While the West has recently recognized that human beings are complex bio-electrical systems, this understanding has been the foundation of acupuncture, in Asia, for thousands of years. According to Oriental medical philosophy, energy circulates throughout the body along certain pathways known as meridians. Pain and illness are caused by an imbalance or blockage in the meridians, and stimulating specific acupuncture points enhances the circulation of energy, improving health. Acupuncture also releases tension in the muscles and connective tissue, making it particularly effective for pain management and the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.
Acupuncture is usually painless. Tiny needles, the width of a thick hair, are inserted at specific points on the body. The needles used are sterile and are disposed of after each use.
Acupuncture has been shown to release endorphins and many patients experience a deep sense of relaxation during and after the treatment. Treatments last 45-60 minutes and are usually prescribed weekly or biweekly. Depending on the severity of the problem, you can expect to notice improvement in your health within 6 to 8 treatments.
